Day 18: New family

9 Sep 2010

I woke up at 11:00 AM, and took 1 piracetam and choline at 12:00 PM, 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. This is another abbreviated day, since there's a wedding going on tomorrow and everyone here will have lots to do. But I did manage to sleep well last night, and hopefully I'll be able to get some rest tonight. I'll be needing it.

I met my mom's new husband's brother and his wife this evening; they're staying with us over the weekend. We all went out to dinner and began mutually familiarizing ourselves, which was great. They brought over a copy of Vanity Fair, with an article by Christopher Hitchens bookmarked for me. These are good people.

The unification of two families, to whatever degree this is actually manifested, has always been an interesting experience in my family. There have been so many marriages, divorces and re-marriages that I've had an ample opportunity to observe, sometimes more closely than I'd like to, the various ways in which they mesh or clash. After all that, it's admittedly kind of foreboding to realize that all of these new people you've never met before will now technically become a part of your family, however closely they might be integrated. And I'm meeting even more of them tomorrow. Based on what I've seen so far, I'm hoping that they'll all be as awesome as my new aunt and uncle. And if they aren't, well, it's not like I'm at all obligated to see them very often.

Overall, I'm in a pretty good mood and looking forward to what's in store for the weekend. So far on the agenda: a wedding, a reception, another reception, a parade, and another reception. And everything in between. Let's do this!

It's nice to know that you have a supporting family, especially since a great deal of humanity seem to be innately opposed to everything you stand for, bu that's why God invented the internet ;). Are your new family members fans of Hitchens, and more importantly, do they know you have a daily blog thus making you forced to say how awesome you think they are?
